Along the canal almost at the foot of Beeston Castle, lies a delightful haven, The Shady Oak. which is described only as a bar, restaurant and campsite. However, this does not do it justice. The Shady Oak, beside the Shropshire Union canal, is much more, and recommended as an idyllic place to seek out and enjoy. With colourful canal boats passing, or mooring up for lunch or dinner, there is always much to see. Besides caravanners, campers and canal people, there is still room and a warm welcome for the passing traveller. Go there just to taste the cuisine, as this restaurant won an award in 2008. There is more, live entertainment, folk singing once a month, boat trips, local brewed beers, and right now, a swan with six signets, nesting beside the wishing well, in The Shady Oak beer garden. Good news for young families, a new childrens play area is in progress, so take the children and make The Shady Oak your destination.
